The Year of the Goat...Billy Goat, That Is

We had a small family party for J's third birthday when I got back from my trip. These pics were actually taken by my mom since our camera appears to not be working properly (it might have something to do with the strawberry margarita A spilled on it when we were staying with John & Shelley...darn kids, they just can't hold their alchohol! ;)

J Gets Down to Business

Everybody Wants to Help!

A Shopping Cart of Pure, Unadulterated Joy (ah, to be three again!)
What Did You Say About Birthday Cake?

Yay! Birfday Cake!

We also had some birthday party crashers

I don't know where they came from, but they appeared to have been hitting the alchohol pretty hard!

Trip Report

So, I totally posted about my Olympics love*, but I forgot to mention how good my trip to the Springs was. I got to meet up with my girlfriend, L, who I hadn't seen in two years. It was so great to hang out and reconnect with her after all this time. It seems like it gets harder and harder to keep in touch with the people I care about as the years go by. As my family grows and we get caught up in every day errands and responsibilities, and your free time goes down to next to nothing, it makes it so difficult to pick up the phone or even write an e-mail! Anyway, my point is that I had a fabulous time hanging out with L, and I am super excited that I'm going to get to see her on a regular basis now** I also ran into a very old friend that I hadn't seen in almost 9 years. We were once so close that she sang at my first wedding. On top of all that, I saw another old friend from my SMC days, and I'm making plans to see yet another old college friend who is now teaching at the Academy for the next time I go out to CO. It'll be a Det 910 reunion! :) I also really like my reserve job. We are standing up a brand new Wing, so there is just a shit-ton of stuff to be done. One of my main priorities is to meet with all of our geographically separated units at some point in the next 6-9 months, so I may be traveling to some other exciting places in the near future! I also managed to find someone who can watch A for me while I'm up there in Sept for two weeks, so I don't have to leave poor Hubs with all the kids again!

* side note: Hubs is seriously losng it b/c there's a break in Olympic coverage and they're playing a story about panda bears. Poor Hubs!

**I wish I could come see all ya'lls so regularly, but the military won't pay for that :(

Pu's Olympic Coverage

So, I don't know about all of you, but I friggin' love the Olympics. I mean, I am just slightly obsessed with making sure I catch every single moment of my favorite sports event. I can still remember watching Janet Evans when I was a young, impressionable girl and thinking how someday that could be me. I get all choked up when I see the medal ceremonies and watch the emotion on the atheletes' faces. I just love everything about them. Hubs and MIL, however, do not share my enthusiasm. Hubs is watching the US-China basketball game only because of his great love for Kobe and not so much for that feeling of national pride. I have also mentioned my excitement to several others in the days leading up to the start of Olympic coverage only to be met with the same sort of tepid response. Most people seemed rather indifferent, which go me to thinking. Am I the only one who still carries this childlike adoration for the Olympics? Is the excitement something most people grow out of, or am I just abnormal because I once dreamed of Olympic gold myself? What do you all think?

As a side note, though the kids were bored to death watching the opening ceremonies (yes, I made them watch the whole thing), C has become a lot more interested since watching Michael Phelps win his first gold. I may have spurred a new generation of Olympic fans by talking him up to her (she keeps asking me when he's going to swim again!) Goal achieved! ;)

Gone, Baby, Gone

Sorry I have not had time to post the second piece of Family Reunion Tour '08. Just after we returned we were invaded by two more small beasts...I mean children, which brings us up to a total of five. So, yeah, not much time to write lately. Also, I am headed out of town for a week (abandon ship!) to do some reserve duty in CO. I hate leaving the kids for so long (believe it or not!), but I am really excited to be meeting up my girlfriend, L, who I haven't seen since her wedding two years ago. So you'll just have to make do with some more pictures to tide you over until my return.

Uncle J and Cousin Y (otherwise known as my b-in-law and niece)

Aunt B is actually a woodland fairy.

Hubs takes a well-earned break from pig-tending to relax with cousin RM & uncle G

Pretty much the coolest photo ever ;)

* Sister AinA was unable to make it to this year's reunion due to her heinous choice to be in a dear friend's wedding in India...selfish, selfish ;) **

Family Reunion Day 1: Doin' it NY Style!

I think this picture says it all :)

Trip Breakdown

Day 1 - Travel from Abq to Buffalo, NY
We flew from Abq to Cleveland, OH since my family reunion was held just 30 min south of there, but we took a very (!) brief detour to Buffalo to see Hubs' family since we so rarely make it out there. Flights are fairly uneventful. Kids are whiney but good for the most part. No delays or lost luggage, plus Continental still serves in-flight meals (sort of, it was half a sandwich and a bite size Kit Kat, but that's better than most airlines!). Rental car was a bit of a different story. After a 20 minute drive to te rental car place (WTF?) we find that apparently quotes given by Expedia are a farce as Dollar wants to charge us $300 versus the $166 we were quoted online. After about 30 minutes of waiting and arguing (on top of the 30 minutes we waited in line just to find out that they wanted to charge us double what we were quoted) I manage to get it down to about $260, only $100 more than we were originally quoted* (I know, serious negotiator here ;) Then we have to wait another 30 min while they prepare our car for us (apparently none of the cars that were patiently waiting in the parking lot were good enough). By now the kids are tired and cranky, Hubs is beyond pissed, and I am just trying to futiley keep things from going into a complete meltdown. We finally get on the road a mere 2 1/2 hrs after landing** Then it's only a four hour drive to Buffalo! Oh wait, yeah, that part sucked, too. The kids completely melt down in the car before two of the three fall asleep and the other one decides that she should continually ask, "Are we there yet?" every five minutes. After about two hours of blissful silence, the little monsters, er....I mean angels, wake up and whine for the remaining hour into Buffalo. We do, however, make it all in one piece and are treated to a wonderful evening visiting with Hubs' dad and his family in lovely Orchard Park, home of Ralph Wilson stadium!! We enjoyed a fabulous evening of pizza and wings (a given for Buffalo!) and a huge bonfire with lots and lots of alchohol :) Kids enjoyed being spoiled rotten by their Grandpa John (I mean ice cream for breakfast kind of spoiled...they Loooove their Grandpa John! :) They also enjoyed a stroll at dusk into the woods with Grandpa John and Daddy where the hightlight was seeing a bunny rabbit poopin in the woods. Plus Shelly (John's wife) cooked us a wonderful breakfast in the morning, and I also got to meet John's mother and brother for the first time. John and Shelly have this huge, black Lab named Chopper that the kids absolutely fell in love with. Here's some pics from that part of the trip:

After we left John and Shelly's on Friday, we went to Hubs' mom's house for a few hours (stopping only to take advantage of the 50% off Bills gear sale at Dicks and Friendly's, which is an absolute MUST for me when we are in that area of the country). We hung out with Ma and bro-in-law Drew for a few hours and then headed off to Homerville, Ohio for what will become a later post ;) Anyway, here's some pics from the second part of the Buffalo trip:

*sidebar: Why is it when I go on business travel my Expedia quotes always remain the same, yet when I travel for personal reasons I get screwed? Discuss.

** Definately not a fan of the Cleveland airport!

Guar-an-tee

WHITNER GUARANTEES PLAYOFF BERTH FOR BILLS

Tucked away in an item from Clifton Brown of SportingNews.com regarding the development of Bills rookie cornerback Leodis McKelvin is an eye-opener from McKelvin’s mentor, safety Donte Whitner.
Asked whether he thinks the Bills will make it to the postseason in 2008, Whitner says, “Do I expect us to make the playoffs?
I’m guaranteeing it.”
Guarantees don’t mean as much as they used to in sports (think Joe Namath). Lately, guarantees often turn out to be a kiss of death. But Whitner’s words suggest a level of confidence that hasn’t been displayed by Buffalo’s pro football
team in a long time, and we like it.

We like it, alot!

This guy here is our starting QB..

And we have the hulk brutha!!!
Of course you can't be a Bills fan without taking the heartache...ha ha ha

Celebrating Independence Day the Only Way I Know How...With Food!

The three day weekend has been fabulous. We started out on Friday being extremely productive: weeding the front and back yards, prepping all the food for our big meal (grilled pork chops w/asian marinade, backed potatoes over the fire and grilled corn with garlic butter, yum!), shopping for food prep stuff for Saturday's extravaganza, etc. Friday night we decided to forego the large crowds and just set off some fireworks at home. I wish I had gotten some photos of it, but J totally flipped out at the noise and light, so I spent a lot of time calming her down and putting her to bed while Hubs & C played with sparklers and ate cookies (okay, I ate a shitload of cookies, too). But, here's a picture of the morning after...

Saturday we had my parents over for an all-day-long barbecue marathon. Click on the link above if you want all the juicy details, but suffice it to say that we ate and drank ourselves silly (we had actually planned ofr more dishes but decided to skip them after much alchohol contributed to a more lackidasical attitude towards our massive endeavor...also it was like 100 degrees out and we were hot as shit)

Today we got a mite more slothful and decided to expend our energies doing absolutely nothing ;) We recently acquired a summer yacht known as the Scurvy Dog:

Pirates on their way to the Scurvy Dog:

Priates playing one of their favorite pirate games (Poke Your Brother):

A good time was had by all ;) Next week we head off to beautiful rural Ohio for our long awaited family reunion with the G-side of my family. Three days of non-stop action and pig roasting (no really, we plan to roast a whole pig on a spit while consuming mass quantities of alchohol) Don't ever let anyone tell you that Mennonites don't know how to party!

Toddler-Centric Post

This last weekend was actually kind of cool and overcast. We must be getting into monsoon season! It's a good thing actually, Albuquerque is dying for some rain. We did get a bit on Sunday accompanied by a little hail in some places, but it's not nearly enough to get rid of that pesky high fire warning. We took advantage of the cooler weather by not really ever leaving our house ;) Actually, we did take awalk over to visit with the De-I's on Saturday. After clearing them out of berries, we returned home to never again leave the house until Monday morning. We did do a movie night on Saturday where we camped out in the living room with hotdogs, popcorn, candy, rootbeer floats, and Dinotopia (don't ask). So we weren't complete sloths!

J amazes me more and more everyday with her vocabulary and understanding of the world around her. Some recent exchanges:

J: *runs up to me and hands me a handful of air* This your birfday cake.
Me: Oh, this is my birthday cake?
J: No! This your birfday. This my birfday cake.

Me: Look at the clouds. Aren't they pretty and so many different shape
J: Yeah, my like clouds. You like clouds, too?
Me: Yes, I like clouds, too. Mmmm, clouds look like big, fluffy marshmallows. Wouldn't you like to taste one?
J: Ew, clouds gross. Yucky. *wipes off tongue vigorously with dirt-covered hands* Thbbbpppt!

*Hubs and I are sitting in the lawn chairs in the backyard when J comes running up* Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daaaaaddeeeee!
Hubs: What!
J: Daddy, this is my friend Mommy.

Hubs: *tucking J into bed* Okay, night, night.
J: Oh no! Where my binky?
Hubs: *looks all over J's room, C's room, and A's room* I can't find it, J. You're just going to have to go to sleep without it.
J: Ummmm, what about kitchen?
Hubs: *checks the kitchen and dining room* J, I still can't find it, so you're just going to have to go to sleep without it!
J: Ummm, maybe big room*?
Hubs: Fine, I'll check this one last place but then you're done *checks every other room in the house* Sorry, J, you're out of luck.
J: *pulls out her binky from where she was sitting on it* Oh! There it is! My find it!
Hubs: I cannot believe I just got played by a two-year-old.

* big room = living room

Super Mega Happy Busy Day

Sorry, we were watching that new show where American contestants go on a Japanese game show. God, I miss Japan sometimes! :) Sorry I have not been posting much as of late. I am incredibly busy at work with a project they want way sooner than I think we can deliver it. Also I vastly underestimated how much time I would be investing for my reserve stuff. I am having to cram in my reserve annual tour days before the end of the fiscal year, so I will be taking a week in July and another 1 1/2 weeks in September to do that. But I am also working from here to do all my planning and coordination in anticipation of actually being there in person. Our unit will also have a UCI (similar to an ORI for those of you that remember the pain I went through last year in LA) and since I am currently the intel shop for the entire Wing...let's just say I've got a lot of work ahead of me to prepare for the inspection :(

In other news, A has developed this incredibly frustrating aversion to all water. He fell into a bucket a few weeks ago (long story, but I was right there and fished him out immediately) and now absolutely refuses to have anything to do with water, whether it's in a pool or just rain falling from the sky. We literally have to hold him in the tub and physically restrain him (because he screams and flails about) while we wash him. If anyone has any suggestions to help him get over this, I would appreciate it!

A's Birthday in Retrospect...2 Weeks Late

Ooooh, what is that?

Hmm, I like that it's kind of squishy

And, it's pretty tasty...just like Play-Doh!

I better shove it down before Mom notices!

Is it football season yet?

I know, I know, it's too early for football talk. Above is the photo of a man named James Hardy, listed at 6'6...he should be playing in the NBA; instead, he will be catching touchdowns in Buffalo...all season long...in your face...GO BILLS!!!

I'm Outtie

Quick post just to let ya'll know things are about to get crazier than normal around the Pu household (I know, I didn't think it was possible either). I am driving to CO on Thursday night for my reserve weekend (evidently our admin unit no longer exercises on the same weekend we do, so I have to go up a day early to take care of some admin-y stuff) and driving back Sunday night after a nice restful weekend of working. With just enough time to kiss my Hubs and remind my kids I'm alive, I then I fly off to Dayton Monday morning for a two day conference with a bunch of scientists (and if that sounds like fun...we are no longer friends ;) I'm flying back Wed night right after the conference ends (hopefully Dayton traffic is not too bad!) so Hubs doesn't have to suffer another day with the urchins whilst I'm off frolicking among my, um, work. Bleh. Anyways, I'll see you all in a week!

Yet Another Weekend Round-Up (+ Monday)

Well, at least you're getting posts once a week, right? :) This weekend was crazy busy. C had her first swim meet, which was marked by her absolute refusal to jump in the water for her first race (cold feet, which wouldn;t have been so bad except she was part of a relay team). Her coach eventually got her to get in the water (he threatened to toss her in!) and she swam all her other events with no problem. Meets start at 7am (!) and can go as late as 12 or 1pm, so this took up most of our day. Also, they are not nearly as fun as I remember them to be. Perhaps it is the fact of being the parent rather than being the swimmer, as C seemed to have a total blast. Then we went grocery shopping, came home and put everything away and promptly collapsed and took naps (hee!). After that we walked over to Mom and Dad's and had caperinas (sp?) and hung out for a few hours before it was time to walk home and have dinner. On Sunday we played outside all day and then Mom and Dad came over for a small birthday celebration for A (after seeing me make A's cake in the morning, J could not stop asking me, 'Eat happy birfday cake?' with that hopeul look in her eyes every time she passed the kitchen counter). A was so hilarious. At first he didn't seem to understand that the cake was food and was just content to squish it up between his fingers. Then he accidently got a taste when he stuck his hand in his mouth and you could just see the light go on in his head, as he went to town on that cake! (pics coming soon, I promise)

Today I worked all day (of course) and I also had my first soccer game of the season (yay) and I also didn't totally suck! (double yay) I had to leave a bit early to take C to swim practice, so I had both the girls with me at the game. I actually tackled this other girl and kicked the ball away from her and all I hear is, "Go, Mommy!" from the sidelines. :) I was kind of worried that this decision to play soccer was not going to have been one of my better ideas since it has been over 15 years since I played competetive soccer, but it turned out to be a lot of fun, and I felt like I was as good as most of the girls on my team and it was good for my kids to see me out there being active and being competetive. When I was driving C to swim practice I asked her what she thought of my performance and she said, "You really stink, Mom." I was a little offened since I didn't think I was that bad. "No, Mom," she said, "I mean, you really, really stink. Can we open a window?" Hee!

Also, apparently there were over 10,000 phone calls made in NM this weekend to police to report a UFO sighting...it was a hot air balloon (Hubs and I actually saw it on Sunday afternoon). Go rural New Mexicans! (In case you weren't aware, NM is like the hot air balloon capitol of the world so this really speaks to the level of dumbass-ness that abounds)

Holiday Weekend Update (sort of)

Sorry for not posting much recently. Besides regular life stuff I have been going through a bit of a dark period, wrestling with different problems that are ongoing in my life. Since my dad has come back from surgery (in case you didn't know, you can learn all about that adventure here), he has helped me see that I need to get back to taking a much more zen approach to life. You have to accept that you cannot change the way things are and to dwell on negative things is to give them more energy. I have to learn to recognize that I am doing what I think is best for my children and my family and just put all other thoughts to rest.

Anyway, on a more positive note, the concert on Tuesday was a lot of fun, my reserve stuff is finally figured out (and I'll be headed up there on June 6th!) , and we had a wonderful Memorial Day cookout with the de-I's. So here are some pics from that and a zoo trip I took with the kids and my moms that I forgot to post earlier (sorry!):

And How Was Your Day?

Stop hitting your brother;
don't push him down, either
Stop kicking him in the face!
Stop kicking him in the face!
Stop kicking him in the face!
Alex, stop putting the cat in your mouth. We do not eat live creatures!
No, don't try to chew on him either.
C, stop messing around with the cat and do your chores...
C to cat, "Mommy says I have to stop playing with you," five seconds pass, "I love you, kitty. Come play with me."

And how was your day?

Hubs Says Must Post

Works is crazy ya'lls. Sorry for not much posting (hmm, I sense a theme here) or commenting on other blogs. I work long hours, have three children and a poopin cat. Pity me! ;) The weekend was really nice though. It was 80 degrees and breezy, so we spent the whole weekend outside with the kids. I am super tan, yay :) Also, the Lakers just clinched the #1 spot in the West, and Hubs will seriously not shut up about it. Evidently the Dodgers are taking the Sabres spot in the shittin' it up department, and the Bills new schedule came out. We are hoping to go to two games this year, one in Denver and one in Arizona.

Hubs has finally found someone for his guitar fix. We are going to see Stephen Marley in a couple of weeks at the Sunshine Theater. I am going to join a soccer team in June (I was told that the league is "just for fun" so hopefully they won't care that I haven't played soccer in 15 years). And the kids are all nuts (A has 6 teeth!).

So, since I probably won't post again for another month or so ;) I am thinking of all of you, wondering what AinA really thought of China, if MR is still belly dancing or if she's just not posting about it as of late, how the de-Is are enjoying their cruise, if Susanne is ready to kill everyone who comments on how preggo she is (SO annoying!), if Laura is still swimming, how RM is enjoying Colorado, and what the BCD girls are cooking tonight...the list goes on!

A Cat Named ?

I know, I know, I haven't blogged in forever. Just to give you an update, Alex is sick with a flu-like virus that includes a shitty diaper full of diarhea every ten minutes (& the diaper rash to go with it), J is a maniac who needs to have my constant attention or else she will go into meltdown mode, C is doing much better with her school work (she's going to be tested for the gifted program & I hope that being challenged in class will help her pay attention more!), Hubs decided we didn't have enough children to take care of so he got us a kitten that the kids are incredibly enamored with, and in the last ten minutes alone I have shouted:
- Do not pick up the cat by its head!
- Who pooped?!
- The cat does not need to have its nose picked!
- Who pooped?!
- Don't touch that! Don't touch that! Don't touch that! (each iteration getting a little higher in pitch)
- Seriously, who pooped?!

So, that's my life right now in a nutshell. Hope you all are weathering the spring madness with equal calm ;)

They're Rising Up Against Us

It seems that everyone I know with a toddler is suffering the same fate as of late. All of our children refuse to sleep. Now some people may chalk this up to normal toddler behavior, but I believe there is something far more sinister going on here...

Sorry I have not been posting much of late. I feel guilty about it and then I remember that I started this blog for fun and feel guilty for feeling guilty about it. What can I say, I am a woman ;)

I took A back to the doctor yesterday. He still has the same cold despite two round of antibiotics in the last two months. Now he's on an even stronger antibiotic, and I don't know what they're going to say if this doesn't work (Dr ruled out asthma and didn't seem to think it was allergies even though that's exactly what Hubs and I think it is). Of course, then he woke up this morning with this humongous swollen eye. I freaked out, but he seemed to otherwise be completely normal, so I figured it wasn't emergency room worthy and just took him back to the Dr. Turns out he has conjuctivitis (basically pink eye) on top of the cold. So I had to call in to work for the third time (on top of the four separate Drs appts he's had) since I started at my new job in January. I have to say, I am really appreciating this little joke God is playing on me since I am both really busy at work and painfully aware that this many absences is probably frowned upon.

Stylz

Taking a page from my big sista's book, I have been trying to update my style (tho I am still a promoter of sweats around the house as my parents can attest to). I went shopping this weekend and dropped a lot more money than I should have (thanks to spending just shy of $1000 to fix my car), but I was able to get some good, solid basic pieces that are stylish yet conservative (I still work on an AFB after all). I will post some pics when I get a chance, but I got two dresses, a pencil skirt, a good pair of black pants, a pair of jeans that fit perfectly, two shirts, and the most comfortable pair of heels I have ever found (so I had to buy them, ya know!). I may not be at Stef's level yet, but I am dedicated to getting there!

Qwest Sucks

Lexi must have sent her evil Dutch internet vibes 'cause we just got our internet back today. C has strep, A has another sinus infection and medicine-induced diarhea, J still cries when I drop her off at daycare, and we are still trying to get the house set up while working full time. Feel sorry for me! ;) Anyway, here's some pics of the house and the kids to keep you occupied.

The Internet Cometh

We've got internet! (I suppose that was obvious considering I'm writing this post) We're all moved into our new home, though there are still some boxes to open and it's become pretty evident that all this space is going to require more shelving to go with it because, while we are finally able to display all of the crap we've aquired over the years, we have no where to put it! Anyway, I've got to keep this short and sweet, but I wanted to let ya'll know we're finally back online. More posting later, I swear!

Success!

We have a house! We move in on Monday! We are no longer forced, er...priviledged to live with my parents! I'm just kidding. I don't know what we would have done without my wonderful parents opening their home to us and being so patient as we hunted for the perfect house (which turned into a hunt for whatever house was available but whatever). We are happy with our pick as it has a ton of room. Almost 3000 square feet to be exact. And, it's a four bedroom, so everyone will actually have their own room! (The nice thing about renting is that you can generally find something much nicer than what you could afford to buy) Plus, it is literally about 4 blocks from my parents house. We can walk over whenever we want, mwah ha ha ha! I can't wait for the day when C "runs away" to grandma's ('cause you know that's going to happen at some point!)

A is doing much better, but now J has taken to waking up in the middle of the night and wanting to come sleep with us in our room. I'm not sure if she's having nightmares or what, but she is not exactly a pleasant sleep companion. She's more of a kicker and pincher than a snuggler. So sleep is still escaping us. One of the greatest things about this house is that all of the kids bedrooms are on the first floor and the master bedroom is on the second floor, so hopefully that will solve the sleeping problem ;) Anyway, we move in on Monday, so I'll be sure to post some pics as soon as I get the chance.

Still Waiting

Sorry I'm not blogging much as of late. The move has not been as smooth as we would have liked. The house we had originally contracted to rent ended up not being for rent (despite the fact that we had signed a contract, sigh). So we had to go back to the drawing board, except with both of us working, we ended up using all of our evening and weekend time to house hunt. Tim also went on a quick spur-of-the-moment trip to Austin last week to visit the step-kiddos since we figured this was a good time to go since he hadn't started work yet. Of course, then A got sick. Really, really sick. I ended up having to take him to the doctor even though my health insurance hasn't kicked in yet (I didn't realize you had a 30 day wait after starting a new job, the things you learn when you separate from the military!). It was about $150 for the visit + the drugs, but it was so worth it because he was really starting to scare me (he had a sinus infection, so it was a good thing I decided to take him). Anyway, we may have another house lined up, but I'm not going to say anything this time until we're actually in the house because I don't want to jinx anything! Hopefully I'll have some good news soon.
